What is the value I bring? I’ve been thinking a lot about this question. What is my value? Anyone can take in information from the various forums available to us, forums such as YouTube, podcasts, lectures, and books, and repeat it verbatim. This process doesn’t add any value to you or any organization you are a part of. Value creation happens when you take in information from various forums, analyze the information, and produce something, anything. You might produce a class assignment in which you take in the information from the lecture, analyze it, and produce answers to assignment questions. Or you might look at a problem out in the world, analyze the information and variables and produce either a new product or a plan for a new business. Even a report you produce after sourcing information from various forums adds value when you add your take or opinion to the report. Simply repeating information as it has been stated does not set you apart.
Ultimately, your opinions, how your process the information, how you react to the information presented, and what you can do differently are the things that make you valuable. And everyone, with their unique life experience and strengths, creates value in their unique way. It has taken me a long time to realize this fact. It is my time to start creating; instead of just consuming, I will create value. What is the value you bring?
